I travel a lot. I spend about half my time in New York, where I live, and half my time in different countries. US phone companies seem very expensive, about double of what I paid for a phone plan in The Netherlands. But their international roaming rates are even higher!

I would like some kind of phone plan that gives me voice, text and data, anywhere in the world, for an OK price. Does something like that exist?

Google voice seems cool, call forwarding to any number, but it only works in the US.
Skype is great, but you need wifi for it to work.
Local sim cards are OK, but then your not reachable unless someone knows that number. In the last 12 months I traveled to New Zealand, Japan, Korea, Sweden, Brazil, Spain, US, UK, NL, France, Germany, you understand that a sim card for each country is not a solution.

I thought of simply not having a phone, so people can only email me. But that’s not really a solution.

It seems that the roaming issue is as difficult as the movie streaming business, it is very hard to make global deals.
