Abstract cave art
This photo is a still from the BBC documentary How Art Made The World.
It is a very old cave painting. They don’t go in to specifics about this work, but it’s found in a cave in Spain and was made between 30 and 40 thousand years ago. Looks a lot like a Mondrian painting if you ask me.
I don’t think art ever really changes. Only technology changes through the years. Artists do the same thing over and over throughout time, responding to their surroundings with the tools they have.
The El Castillo Cave has numerous red discs on its walls. One was dated to 40,800 years ago.
