The new tech rich are not buying art (NYTimes article)

Does Anyone Here Speak Art and Tech? is an article on NYtimes.com about the New Tech Rich and their lack of interest in buying art.

from the article:
“If these are our next Rockefellers, Carnegies, Fricks, whatever you want to say in terms of our wealthy American elite, then why aren’t they supporting culture?”

I think the writer has a very old view of what art is. These new rich people are actually creating a cultural revolution. Think of the impact of Adobe software, browsers, Youtube, Twitter, App stores. They are giving everyone in the world a platform to make art, in a much more democratic way than the traditional art world.

This new art might not hang in a museum, but it exists, it’s time to acknowledge that.
